Sweet summer engagement session at the creek
Violet & Matt are truly a free-spirited pair. Violet is silly and cute and always smiling. She loves to dance and laugh and imagine. Matt is calm and content. He’s adventurous and curious and humble. Together, they’re an adorable pair. The way that they glow in each other’s presence, is just so beautiful.. I couldn’t help but keep them a little longer than we planned.
Leading up to our session, Violet and I had collaborated on a mood board. I sent her my initial thoughts on aesthetic, which were free-spirited, natural, and romantic. She responded with unexpected (but very much welcomed!) rich notes of fine art and whimsy. She expressed to me that the most important thing was to have fun, be adventurous, and create something artful. Anything beyond that was icing on the cake. So that’s what we did!
The couple brought me to their favorite spot along Tohickon Creek. As we emerged from the wooded path onto the rocky creek bed, I nearly cried. It was breathtaking. Stoically, I invited Violet & Matt to drop their things, take their shoes off, and just explore the creek for a few minutes. They felt a little awkward at first, not having much direction. But I assured them that every moment was more beautiful than I could even stand, and that just enjoying their time together was making their hearts glow for the camera.
They playfully made their way to a comfortable rock in the middle of the creek, and smiled at up me - ready for direction. So I stepped in. Keeping things lighthearted and whimsical, I photographed them on the rocks for some time.. holding back tears from the raw beauty that lay before me.
After awhile, once our hearts felt full, I asked them if they’d like to wander back through the woods to frolic in the field on the hill.
“Can we get in the water?” Violet asked.
“Oh! Okay. YES! Let’s do it.” I replied.
So instead, we wandered along the creek until we found a beautiful natural pool. The sun sat on the tree line as they waded into the water. Their smiles radiated with excitement and thrill! It was adorable! The water was cool in the summer heat. Perfectly refreshing!
Right before the sun blinked behind the trees, I invited them onto a nearby rock for a romantic last moment of golden sunlight. She stayed for our moment, and then she was gone.
“Time for golden fields of grain,” I said.
We said goodbye to the creek, and headed up through the woods to the field above. Violet & Matt’s session ended in the golden light. We danced, we frolicked, we caught grasshoppers and picked flowers.. and the couple revealed in the joy and anticipation of their nuptials to come. It was an absolutely perfect evening.
Thank you V&M, for introducing me to your favorite spot, and trusting me to capture a piece of your story. I’m looking forward to the wedding!
