Heartfelt Vow Renewal on the Appalachian Trail | Palmerton, PA
Ashley & Steve have been together for 15 years, married for 6. They’ve been through so much together and wanted to honor their journey and refresh their promises to each other in a meaningful way. When they reached out about a private vow renewal in the mountains, I knew the perfect spot. We connected a number of times leading up to the big day to discuss wardrobe, florals, hike time, sunset, etc. Although we took our time and enjoyed the hike, I kept us on a strict schedule with the sun so they could say their vows under an epic display of color and light.
The day of, they rolled up in their 70’s style shag van with their shaggy pup. Ashley was wearing a vintage wedding dress she had thrifted, and Steve was rocking his handmade bolo tie. Ashley is a florist and the owner of The Freckled Flower. As soon as they pulled up, Ashley began unpacking all her florals. She had crafted a gorgeous bouquet of organic local blooms with a matching flower crown, pocket florals for Steve, and collar florals for their furbaby. They laced up their boots, grabbed their vow books (actual flora & fauna books with their vows tucked inside), and we set out on the trail.
The best time of year for this location is late summer / early fall when the golden rod is in bloom. It’s a beautiful spot for folks who are willing to sacrifice an easy hike for an epic mountain meadow sunset.
As we rounded the mountain, the golden hour sun began to peak through the trees. We arrived at our destination just in time for the electrifying red sun to sink into the rolling Pennsylvania hills. Ashley & Steve said their vows, with their trusty stead at their side. The sun stayed just long enough for them to consummate their promises, and then bid farewell as it disappeared behind the Appalachian Mountains.
We truly could not have asked for a more perfect evening. Thank you, Ashley & Steve for trusting me to capture a piece of your story.
